“Arise, outside the classroom, participating in extracurricular activities.

“Arise, awake, and stop not until the
goal is reached.” – Swami Vivekananda

Coming from the
land of Swami Vivekananda, I have
always been inspired by his ideas and teachings. It motivates me to remain focused
and strive to achieve my goal. With this attitude, I aim to be the change in IT
sector and contribute to the mankind in the field of data science and IT
management by opening an analytic and consulting firm of my own.

Since my
childhood, I have been brilliant both in academics as well as in co-curricular
activities. My keen interest in logically and analytically oriented subjects
led me to take up Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as my major subjects. I
was consistent with my academic performance and always stood among the top 10
percent of students in the class. Furthermore, I captained and led my teams to victory
in sports like cricket and athletics at various Intra and inter-school
competitions. In addition to this, I have also been recognized for my talent in
art and have been awarded at National level painting competition that was held
by ‘The Academy of Art and Culture’ of my State.

During the tenure
of my undergraduate curriculum, I was introduced to interesting subjects
such as embedded systems, C, C++, data communication and computer network,
operating systems etc. which helped me understand the concept of system
implementation and how computers are applied to practical systems in day-to-day
life. As part of my final year project, I along with my team of three developed
a project ‘Automatic Street Lighting
Control Using ZigBee Module’ implementing embedded and communication system
technology. Apart from the technical acumen I have gathered over the four
years, I have learnt equally valuable lessons outside the classroom,
participating in extracurricular activities. Presentations, seminars and
organizing events gave me a platform to interact with people from varied
backgrounds.

After under-graduation,
I joined ‘Tata Consultancy Services
(TCS)’ to experience the corporate life and to learn business rules
governing this industry. During my training, I worked on an E-commerce project
‘Inventory Management System’. The technology used was C++, Unix and My/PL SQL.
After training, I got selected for a Marketing
Automation project ‘Adobe Campaign Management’. My job was to support and
maintain Adobe Campaign platform. Main responsibilities included job
monitoring, bug fixing, ensuring smooth campaign deployments, server and
database monitoring, and ensuring lossless transfer of customer data upstream/downstream.
Every day we dealt with millions of bits of customer data which had to be efficiently
retrieved, stored, organized and moved to other systems which relied on that
data. The interactions and business meetings with highly experienced team members,
managers, and clients – pundits in the fields of data science and business
management helped me understand certain aspects of IT management.

The volume and
diversity of data both generated and collected by companies today is
staggering. In fact, as per Forbes, by the year 2020, about 1.7
megabytes of new information will be created every second for every human present
on the planet. Our accumulated digital universe of data will grow from 4.4 zettabytes
as recorded in 2013 to around 44 zettabytes in 2020. This abundance of
data, coupled with the unavailability of powerful data analysis tools, has
given rise to a “data rich but information poor” phenomenon. The widening gap
between data and information has generated an urgent need for new techniques
and tools that can intelligently assist us in the management of data and
information.

Having worked in
TCS for 3 years, I came to know about the importance, capabilities and business
applications in the field of Information System. To prepare myself to meet the
demanding standards of this industry, I wish to pursue M.S in Information Technology and Management at
UT Dallas – Naveen Jindal School of
Management and my preferred area of study is in ‘Business Intelligence and Analytics’. The distinguished faculty, excellent
facilities and proximity to industry-leading organizations of JSOM makes the graduation program
ideally suited to my professional goals. The breadth and flexibility of the
curriculum will provide specialization in the field of my interest. For
instance, Systems Analysis and Project
Management, Business Analytics with
SAS etc. are such courses that will provide knowledge which will play a
crucial role in my career. Also, certification programs offered under ITM major provide a great opportunity
for students who want a competitive edge as they seek jobs. Furthermore, at JSOM,
I will be able to work with students having different work experience and cultures
by indulging in community services, student organization/campus involvements,
this will help in effectively collaborating with individuals of diverse
backgrounds and ideas.

I sincerely
request the esteemed Admission Committee of JSOM to favorably consider my application and provide me with a
suitable platform for the attainment of success in my desired field.
